HABITAT

By DG Bernice Kulp

The Final Act. On November 21, 2009, 12 noon, the Habitat House the Lions and Lioness of 14K teamed up with LCIF and Habitat of the Lehigh Valley and worked to build was dedicated and became a home for Izade and his Mom and Dad,

The project started in February of 2007 when Habitat contacted me as district governor,

After several meetings and the with approval of incoming DG Larry Snyder, an agreement was signed in April of 2007 between District 14K and Habitat to apply for an L C I F Grant.

The grant was approved and the fund raising started. We had 52 Lions and Lioness clubs

at that time and 39 contributed 13 did not. There were many personal donations by members.

Thank You to all the clubs and members for helping to raise the funds.

For the next year, meetings were held and plans were made to prepare for the Blitz week August 19-23, 2008. DG Don Trexler, inherited the project, jumped right in with both feet and a hammer, and went to work. Clubs, members and local businesses contributed to help provide breakfasts, lunches and drinks, soda, coffee, ice tea, water, yoo-hoo and ice. The contributions were plentiful and gratefully appreciated by all the workers. Lions, Lioness and many other community service minded people who came out to help. We served over 200 workers that week.

This project was probably one of the biggest and best examples of District 14K Service we have done in a long time. What a great outpouring of Teamwork and Team Spirit by our members who came out helped in some way during Blitz week. Thank you again.

A photo album and many pictures of the house being constructed were given to the family. When I signed the grant request and accepted the responsibility of overseeing the project, never did I think I would be the District governor when it became a reality.

Thank you again to all the clubs and many members who stepped-up and helped to make a dream come true.
